About Strandberg
Ola Strandberg founded his guitar company back in 1982. With a vision of innovation and revolutionary designs, the company set about redefining what an electric guitar both looked and sounded like.
They emphasized the ergonomics of their instruments that had been common in the past, with the EndurNeck profile becoming one of their most essential features. The idea was that a guitar that feels better would perform better.
What started as a vision for the guitar of the future has become a range of instruments that are sought after across the globe. They offer uniqueness in their sound that is hard to compare with any other brand on the market.
What Makes a Strandberg so Unique?
As we’ve touched on, Strandberg's designs stand out from the crowd. The most noticeable design feature is that no Strandberg comes with a head. This means a totally redesigned and rethought-out way of tuning their guitars and weight that has been redistributed through the body, leading to a much greater balance.
Their patented EndurNeck profile allows for supreme playability and an experience that is much easier on the body, particularly muscles and joints in the arm. Other benefits of EndurNeck design include;
The use of flat surfaces to provide better grip
Its thicker profile makes it easy to hold
The profile is suitable for players used to both thick and thin necks
Playing chords using the far end of the neck is much easier than on traditional profiles
Fret access at the bottom of the neck is greatly improved, aiding solos
The rear of the neck is curved, encouraging a better playing position
The body of the guitar is another area that has been redesigned. The amount of material used has been reduced to create both a lightweight feel and appearance. This has enormous benefits to the maneuverability of the instruments and plays a key part in how these guitars have become some of the preferred models for modern players.
What Type of Strandberg Will Suit my Style?
There are many Strandberg's to choose from. The company has developed a product portfolio that covers almost every base imaginable for electric guitarists. Whilst the core design elements remain the same across all. There are some key style differences that you’ll need to be aware of when making a purchase.
Original Series
Guitars from the Original Series are the most up-to-date version of the very first Strandberg designs. Their bodies are made using Swamp Ash and Flame Maple with ultra-lightweight fretboards that focus on a high midrange with clear tops. Note separation when playing chords is a real strong point, as is their articulate delivery and precise response.
This range is aimed at guitarists looking for clarity over all else. The note separation and attack are excellent, while there is also a wide tonal variation thanks to dual humbucker pickups.
Prog Series
Like the Original Series, the Progs share the same construction with an added ebony fretboard and EGS tremolo system. The use of Ebony allows for a more open tone that boosts the higher treble while giving a smoother overall look and feel than that of the Original.
The Prog range is best suited to expressive players that demand versatility. A clear and defined tone means a broader range of playing options, with the floating tremolo bridge and ebony fretboard enhancing the guitar both visually and sonically.
Fusion Series
The fusion series serves as Strandberg’s go-to for the all-around musician. It has a chambered Alder body that delivers a flawlessly even tone compared to both the Original and Prog series. It also features a slightly warmer midrange without clarity or definition suffering.
It’s also the only Strandberg series to include an HSH pickup layout that can be combined to create various configurations.
The fusion series is ideal for the all-around player that needs even tones for their sound. The versatile pickup options would also suit players that like to tweak the electronics on their guitars.
A huge tremolo system is included for those that want to use the effect, and a bolt-on version provides improved clarity, response, and articulation.
Metal Series
If slightly wider and fatter sounds are your thing, then look no further than the Metal series. With an emphasis on mids and lows, you’ll get a complete frequency response from this range of Strandbergs.
Chambered American Basswood and a Maple top help with high gain impact & control while an Ebony fingerboard delivers a dynamic aesthetic. All instruments in the Metal series also come with hardtail bridges for added reliability and stability.
In terms of who the Metal series would suit, any player after a big sound with commanding musical voice and clarity. A bolt-on version provides a higher sound density with rapid attack while the neck-thru model improves access to frets with a big sustain and punch.
Classic Series
Strandberg’s Classic series caters to the slightly more traditional musician. The same benefits of other models are still present, such as ultra-low weight and extreme ergonomics, but the tones produced are much more akin to those of a traditional electric guitar.
They are constructed using solid Alder or Swamp Ash and feature custom US-made Suhr T OEM Alnico 5 pickups. These deliver classically balanced tones in abundance.
These will suit fans of traditional American bolt-on guitars that require a lightweight instrument with supreme ergonomics. Sonically, these guitars produce somewhat of a hybrid sound that encompasses aspects of the vintage and more modern.
Deluxe Series
The Deluxe range is a close cousin to the Classic series. The look, feel, and tone are all very similar. There are, however, some notable differences with the inclusion of a Maple top, giving the Deluxe higher resonance and tonal complexity.
The finish is also slightly different in that you can opt for a Pao Ferro or roasted figure Maple fretboard. These changes aid playability but are, in essence, only aesthetic differences between them and the Classic models.
These guitars would suit players interested in the Classic line but perhaps want a model that will stand out from other Strandbergs. They deliver excellent clarity with a warm twang and slightly woodier tones.
Standard Series
The standard series has been designed to bring together all the features that make a Strandberg play, feel and sound as good as they do, all at a lower price than the more specialist versions.
They all feature US Basswood bodies with a thick Maple top and Flamed Maple veneer, so look awesome. The necks are also made using a roasted Maple to ensure the quality and useability remain constant, and although these are solid body designs, they remain lightweight and maneuverable.
These models are perfect for musicians that are after the balanced sound of a Strandberg without needing to splash out on all of the aesthetic extras that come with the more expensive models.

Just like with all Strandbergs, the Standard 6 features a headless design, ergonomic EndurNeck neck profile, and fixed bridge. Strandberg Boden Metal 8 - Perfect For Metal Guitarists
The Boden Metal 8 is the first non-6-string to make our list. Over the years Strandberg has developed a reputation as one of the finest producers of 6, 7, and 8 string guitars that are designed and crafted to suit the demands of specific genres like Metal.
We chose this particular model based on both its sound and looks. The sleek Strandberg styling takes on another dimension when adding further strings that almost make them look like something out of the future.
They don't just look good though, the Boden Metal 8 is extremely flexible, allowing for precise articulation and expression.
Underneath the striking finish, the guitar houses a Basswood body, plain Maple top, and roast Maple neck. All of which combine to deliver tones that fill the midrange, quicken the transient attack and add brilliance to the highs.
Good news for all the bass guitarists out there, Strandberg makes an excellent bass that takes those brilliant design features and reimagines them for funky basslines and deeper tones.
The Prog 5 Bass is a 5-string bass guitar that has been developed with the modern bassist in mind. The lightweight Swamp Ash body is hollowed out, and a Flame Roasted Maple top allows for aggressive sounds that can be refined and tweaked to suit all manner of playing styles.
The natural acoustics of the instrument is balanced perfectly thanks to the slick Ebony fretboard and bright tonal edge. The guitar also features an onboard preamp EQ with controls for customization on the go.
Finally, we have the Boden Prog 7. This 7-string guitar offers a wider range of options than a standard 6-string without getting into the crazy world of 8-strings.
As the name suggests, the Prog series has been developed for progressive rock musicians. They often need cutting tones, good playability, and a well set up tremolo function.
The body on the Prog 7 is Swamp Ash, this gives the user punchy mids and highs with the Poplar Burl top bringing an element of brilliance and tightness to your sound.
A roasted Maple neck is used in conjunction with an Ebony fretboard to add a cutting edge, helping players stand out in a busy mix. Fishman fluence pickups are included as standard with 3-way wiring to open up a wider than expected range of sound for added versatility.

Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Where Are Strandbergs Made?
Answer: Strandbergs were originally designed and made in Sweden. However, since 2018 the production of Strandbergs has been in Indonesia.
Question: Which Strings Fit the Boden Bass?
Answer: Strandberg bass guitars use traditional strings, double ball-end style strings will not fit. The arrangement on Boden basses is 33-34.5-inch for 4-string models and 33-35-inch for 5-strings. This results in each string being a different length and must be mounted in the correct positions.
Question: How do I Properly Clean and Maintain a Strandberg?
Answer: Proper guitar maintenance is important regardless of make or model. Due to their finish, Strandbergs only need a damp cloth to remove any light stains or dirt that may have built up.
The Final Word - Which is the Best Strandberg Guitar?
The great thing about Strandberg guitars is that there is a wide range to choose from. That being said, some definitely stand out from the rest.
If you’re a bass player, the Strandberg Boden Prog 5 Bass is an excellent choice. The craftsmanship and Strandberg design when applied to the bass works very well and creates a supremely playable and modern guitar with rich tones to boot.
If, however, you play rhythm or lead then our pick has to be Boden Original 6. It brings together everything that made Strandberg's so popular in the first place and packages them as a brilliant all-rounder that the vast majority of guitarists can enjoy playing.
