ABOUT
ALTIN GONI

AUTHOR
Altin lives for guitar; grabbing his beloved guitar is one of the first things he does when he hops out of bed in the morning. But, he isn’t just dedicated to continuing to grow as a musician himself.

Instead, he wants to help other people flourish playing the guitar too. It always makes Altin sad when he sees musicians with potential give up on playing because they get frustrated.

After watching one too many people put down their guitar forever, he’s now dedicated himself to helping every beginner guitarist he can learn how to master their struggles.

Why am I giving advice on Guitar Space?

Learning guitar has changed my life to the point I spend most of my days playing, recording, listening, and writing about guitars. I want to share my knowledge as a session guitarist to help and inspire others to pick up a guitar and realized their musical goal, whatever that may be.

What is my favorite guitar?

My favorite guitar is the Fender Stratocaster. I love the punchy wood tone of the Strat and how it goes from mellow to crunchy and wild by only changing up playing dynamics. I think it’s the one guitar that perfectly matches my style and character.

What’s the best piece of advice I’d give to a beginning guitarist?

Don’t practice what you know; practice what you don’t know. As guitar players, we are often stuck repeating the same patterns of practice, styles, etc. Constantly challenge yourself with something new, and you will always stay motivated while improving.

What song am I learning how to master now?

I’m studying the Steely Dan song, “Don’t Take Me Alive”. The solo by the session legend Larry Carlton is as tricky as it is beautiful.

What was the first song I learned how to play?

I learned how to play “The Unforgiven” intro by Metallica on an old nylon string guitar.
